Software Team Lead

DESCRIPTION OF JOB DUTIES

The Astronomical Software Team Lead at Las Cumbres Observatory (LCO) will be responsible for leading the LCO Software Team.  Duties include establishing project priorities, project management for specific software projects and management of the team.  In addition to leading the software team, the Team Lead will also be responsible for the following projects: robotic control, spectrograph development, expansion of the telescope network, upgrading of legacy telescope systems and observatory control software. The Team Lead will work primarily at the LCO headquarters in Goleta, California but may be required to travel to various world-wide locations to work with other software and observatory engineers as well as the science staff.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • PhD in Astronomy or Astrophysics
  • 5+ Years of experience in a professional software team
  • 5+ Years of experience with telescope control software
  • 1+ Year of experience managing / leading a team
  • Demonstrated proficiency in at least one procedural language, ideally C
  • Demonstrated proficiency in at least of the following modern object-oriented languages: Java, C++ or Python
  • Demonstrated knowledge with modern software engineering tools, including version control, continuous integration, agile development
