Amateur Outreach Award 2009

Oct 5, 2009

Every year the Las Cumbres Amateur Outreach Award is presented to an individual displaying outstanding outreach by an amateur astronomer to children and the public. This award is presented at the Astronomical Society of the Pacific (ASP) annual meeting, after the ASP board of directors have reviewed all the candidates.

In September 2009 at the ASP annual meeting in Millbrae, California, the Las Cumbres Amateur Outreach Award was awarded to Carol Lee Lutsinger of Brownsville, Texas. The award was made for her work in astronomy education and outreach in her community as a member of the South Texas Astronomical Society and a JPL/NASA Solar System Ambassador. Carol reaches thousands of low-income children in her community through her work with the Brownsville Public Library and the Brownsville Children's Museum.

You can learn more about Carol from the ASP website which includes the news release on the award winners.

Congratulations Carol!

The closing date for next year's award is 15 December 2009. If you know someone whose work deserves to be recognised please see the ASP website for more details.
