Students win ESO competition with LCOGT!

Oct 23, 2008

A number of school students have won prizes in national and international competitions after working with LCOGT scientists and facilities.  On Friday 23rd May, ESO announced the winners of its "Catch a Star" competition:

"ESO and EAAE are very pleased to announce the winners of the Catch a Star 2008 contest. We would like to congratulate everyone who took part in the competition. The standard of the entries was extremely impressive, which made it difficult for the jury to choose the winners! We enjoyed reading the projects and looking at the artworks, and the hard work that went into the entries was evident. Even if you did not receive a prize this year, we hope you had fun taking part, and learnt some exciting things about our Universe! Look out for the next "Catch a Star!" competition... "

The list of winners included two regular users of FTN and FTS, Marta Kotarba with Grzegorz Sęk (Poland) who won 2nd prize in the Researchers category, and Andreia Nascimento with Leonor Cabral (Portugal), who came 3rd. Both Marta and Andreia carried out observational projects, working on the Galaxy Zoo project and searching for new open clusters respectively. Their mentors, Grzegorz and Leonor began work with FT/LCOGT as a result of British Council-funded education programmes.
