Joseph Farah, a graduate student studying super nova at LCO and UCSB discusses his work unraveling the mysterious interaction between a newborn magnetar powering the brightest supernovae in the universe from within and the massive debris disk swirling around it. This work, recently published in Nature, reveals how these forces shaped the explosion, revealing the complex gravity and extreme physics at work within a dying star for the first time.

Las Cumbres Observatory is pleased to present a series of free public talks featuring leading scientists speaking about exciting new discoveries in astronomy.

Everyone is welcome to these events.
