Astrophotography From Down Under

May 29, 2013

Recently two LCOGT 1.0 meter telescopes went on sky for the first time at Siding Spring Australia.  I was given the privilege of taking some of the first images with those telescopes.

In keeping with the spirit of the "first-light" images made by BJ Fulton (see the story here)  I also did no touching up of the images.  Using scrips I created in IDL, images in red, blue, and green of 4 fields were tied together to make the single color image.  The images of the Eta Carina Nebula were taken on 25th of May 2013.

It is remarkable to note the clarity of these images which were taken on the night of a full moon.  This is a sign of great things to come!
