Maui Workshop for Students and Teachers

Mar 31, 2010

On March 11-13 LCOGT supported the second annual Astronomy and Heliophysics Workshop on Maui.  The Workshop was held by LCOGT, and partner organizations:  The Maui Economic Development Board, The National Solar Observatory, and the Institute for Astronomy.

17 students and 6 teachers attended on their days off from school to learn more about astronomy and Heliophsics.  Events included a a live feed from the Faukes Telescope North, activities to learn about electricity and magnetismsunspots - the sun's "Beauty Spots", a presentation on asteroid hunts, and a talk about extrasolar planets - "Seeking out new life and new civilizations."

The program was a huge success as judged by attendee feedback.  Students and teachers made comments such as "I had a lot of fun, thanks for doing this!" and "I would recommend this to others."   On Monday JD was stopped by one of the reachers who attended the workshop, thanking him (LCOGT, and others) for holding the workshop.
