Network status: Happy Thanksgiving!

Nov 18, 2016

In the past few weeks, we've experienced intermittent problems with internet connectivity to some of our network sites, which has prevented us from promptly delivering images to our science archive. In all of these cases, the connectivity problems were not due to LCO hardware or software failures, but to failures beyond our power to fix (e.g. fiber breaks). Connections to Australia and South Africa have now been stable for several days, but our connection to Chile remains unreliable. The connectivity problems are affecting all facilities on Cerro Tololo.
LCO's 0.4m telescope at Teide Observatory was restored to service on November 1, following some on-site maintenance at the end of October. The return of TFN:0m4a (camera kb29) probably merited an immediate announcement (sorry!), but those of you who use the 0.4m telescopes have surely noticed by now that it's available again.
LCO users now have the ability to edit their email addresses in the user portal. To do so, first login to the portal, then click on your username in the upper-right corner, then select "Your profile" from the drop-down menu. The email address is the top-most cell on the "edit your profile" page. Don't forget to save your changes by clicking the "Update" button.
LCO's Santa Barbara headquarters will be closed for the week of November 21-25, in celebration of the Thanksgiving holiday. LCO's network will, of course, not be closed, and science observations will continue. Our ability to respond to questions about network performance or particular observations will be diminished during the week. We appreciate your patience, and we wish you a peaceful Thanksgiving holiday.
