Supernova Sonata featured on APOD

May 26, 2011

Astronomy Picture of the Day (or APOD) featured the Supernova Sonata, featuring stars exploding to music.

The Supernova Sonata is a video compilation created by Alex H. Parker from University of Victoria and Melissa L. Graham from LCOGT/UCSB. Supernovae data from the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope Legacy Survey (April 2003 – August 2006) was used and each of the 241 supernovae had its own note to play to create the beautiful music.

More information can be found at Alex's website and on the APOD link.  Make sure and turn the volume up!
