Asteroid Families: Properties, Origins, and Evolution
August 3, 2017
When: August 3, 2017 3:30AM
Jet Propulsion Laboratory
Asteroid families are the remnants of some of the largest impacts in our Solar System since the end of planet formation, and provide us a
laboratory for testing impact physics on a scale that is impossible on Earth. I will provide an overview of the properties of asteroid
families, highlight some recent results, and describe the contributions of on-going asteroid surveys such as NEOWISE to our knowledge about these objects.
