About

Appalachian Starsong Project is a joint project of Western Carolina University and the Fontana Regional Library system to create a STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, math). Small teams of students with science professionals will investigate a type of variable star (RR-Lyrae) present in globular star clusters in the Milky Way galaxy with relatively short periods of brightness variation. Students will be trained on sending observation requests to study how the brightness of these stars changes with time. To get them to think about how scientific data is represented in a way that is meaningful and shared to a broad audience, students will be asked to incorporate the time-varying data in an art piece.
